Artist's Books

아티스트 북

Works of art that use the form of the book itself as their medium; some are printed in small or large editions, others made as one of a kind.

01About

An ordinary book is a container for its content; an artist's book makes the paper, size, layout, printing, binding, and the order of the pages all part of the work, so the same story in a different edition and binding wears a different face. They are often printed and published by the artists themselves or by small presses, and are closely tied to independent publishing. Seoul's Unlimited Edition, begun in 2009, brings independent-publishing and art-book makers together once a year; it first moved between galleries, cafés, and museums, and since 2015 has been held at the Seoul Museum of Art's Buk-Seoul branch, organized by the independent bookshop YOUR-MIND and the Seoul Museum of Art.

Where you may handle the books, feel the paper and look at the binding first, then turn page by page: how are the pictures and text placed, and how are blank space and the rhythm of turning arranged?
