All-over dot painting
전면점화
The way of painting Kim Whanki developed in New York around 1970, filling the whole canvas with countless dots of color.
01About
He set down a dot, waited for the paint to spread on the canvas, then drew a square around it, repeating this until dots and squares covered the picture. The paint is thin, so every dot bleeds differently. Most dot paintings are blue, and most titles are the date of completion and a number, such as 12-V-70 #172. Where, in What Form, Shall We Meet Again (1970) is seen as the start of the dot-painting period; before his death in 1974 he also made dot paintings in mostly black.
