Performance Art
퍼포먼스 아트
Work in which the artist is present and that happens over a stretch of time; it can be seen live or through documentation.
01About
Performance art can be scripted in advance or arise spontaneously, and it is usually presented in an art context and across disciplines, which sets it apart from performing arts in the theater. Because a work happens only for a certain time, photographs, video, and written records become the way most people know it, and they are often shown in exhibitions. Korean museums call programs that cross art, performance, film, and talks dawon yesul (multidisciplinary art); the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art's 2026 program, The Detective's Time, calls people who observe over long periods, artists, and children “detectives,” set against an age that expects AI to answer at once.

Check the dates and times of the performances first; if you miss them, watch the documentation and notice what the camera's viewpoint chose to show and to leave out.

03Notes
A performance happens only for a while; most people come to know it through photographs and video.
Live or on record, what do you think is left once the work is over?
