True-view landscape

진경산수

Landscape painting pioneered by the 18th-century Joseon painter Jeong Seon, depicting the real mountains before his eyes rather than an idealized nature.

01About

East Asian landscape painting mostly showed an ideal nature. Jeong Seon (1676–1759) turned to real places such as Mount Geumgang and Seoul's Mount Inwang; his Clearing after Rain on Mount Inwang (1751) is a National Treasure of Korea. In the 20th century, Park No-soo (1927–2013) carried the ink painting tradition forward with spare brushwork and clear color.
