Guandu Nature Park
Chinese original:
關渡自然公園
A wetland nature reserve where the Tamsui and Keelung rivers meet, long a stopover for migratory birds. After more than a decade of campaigning by conservationists, the Taipei City Government set it up in 1996 to keep the city's last stretch of wetland, and since December 2001 the Wild Bird Society of Taipei has run it on the city's behalf, making it Taiwan's first protected area managed entirely by a non-governmental group. Besides ponds, mudflats and bird hides, the park has hosted the Guandu International Nature Art Festival since 2006, with outdoor installations made from natural materials.
