KK Line (former Tokyo Expressway)
Japanese original:
KK線(旧東京高速道路)
An elevated road of about 2 km around Ginza, officially the Tokyo Expressway. It was built over the Sotobori, Shiodome and Kyobashi rivers, which once circled Ginza and were filled in for it; part of it opened in 1959 and the whole route in 1966. Rent from the buildings beneath it paid for building and running the road, so it was toll-free. Most of it closed as a road on April 5, 2025, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government plans to turn it into Tokyo Sky Corridor, an elevated walkway centered on pedestrians. It is normally closed to the public and opens only for events.
