Mysterious Creature

Japanese original:

謎のいきもの

Taro Okamoto did not paint landscapes, still lifes, portraits or nudes, the staples of Western painting. He made a world of his own, neither the real one nor pure abstraction. What appears in it cannot be identified, yet many have eyes and radiate life, which is why they are called ikimono (living creatures). The show gathers these works, and the tile painting Girl and Dog is shown publicly for the first time.
