Kanji Yumisashi, “Black Market and the Foam”
Japanese original:
弓指寛治「ブラックマーケット アンド ザ フォーム」
Kanji Yumisashi works mainly in painting, and through long research and time spent with people he looks at large histories, such as the war, the settlers sent to Manchukuo and people living on the street, through single lives. His new work takes up the post-war black market and soap: in the chaos after the war Sumida had several black markets, where even poor-quality black-market soap changed hands, in a district long tied to soap-making. It is shown in two places a short walk apart: the Suzuki ironworks next to Tarohachi from 10 October, and from 11 November also the former Koyama house at Tachibana Taisho Minkaen.
