Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum 100th Anniversary: Opening a New Chapter—100 Years of the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum

Japanese original:

東京都美術館開館100周年記念 はじまりをひらく 東京都美術館の100年

The Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum opened in Ueno in 1926 as the Tokyo Prefectural Art Museum, built with one million yen donated by Satō Keitarō, a coal merchant from Kitakyushu. For its 100th anniversary, the museum draws on its own archives to look back at the history of Japan's first public art museum, home over the years to art society exhibitions, avant-garde shows and exhibitions of Western masterpieces. Admission is free.
